The Harriman Cup Polo Match, in it's 26th year, commemorates the life of diplomat, sportsman and former New York Governor Averell Harriman, and brings together friends, families, and polo enthusiasts from around the world.
Full day of events including polo, live music and tailgating.
The Harriman Cup is also a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of polo and supporting the collegiate polo programs at Yale and the University of Virginia. Yale and Virginia alum come from as far as Malaysia, England, Argentina, Ecuador and througout the United States to participate. Over the past two decades, over $600,000 has been raised for the schools' undergraduate polo teams. The funds garnered from this year's Harriman Cup will help rebuild Yale's college polo program. It also allows both schools to lower participant costs so that students of all backgrounds (including UVA's Vere Nicoll Polo Scholars) can participate in the sport. The Harriman Cup was founded in 1984 by Zene Colt, Dick Cauley, Mike McGhee, Tom Shuman, Mike Schram, Steve Orthwein, Sandy Carden, Lou Lopez, Bill Ylvisaker, and John Harris Jr.
