Does anyone know if they (HPA/AAP) are changing / updating the turning the ball rule for this coming season in the UK?

The last I heard for the 2011 season, a player can no longer tap the ball under their ponies neck to avoid the turning the ball right rule, however, they can now turn the ball to the right if they play a big shot ... or something like that  ... does anyone know what the latest version is?

Hi Sandra

Kind of, check this site out: http://www.hpa-polo.co.uk/rulesregs/rulesdvd.asp   and scroll down to the bottom video. This is what I am talking about.

This rule, or the new way of interpreting this rule, I am referring to was brought in 2010 and had some success (i.e. got a lot more people playing backhands which had some advantages).

However, I believe that there were a number of small changes the HPA were going to make to this rule, as players incorrectly found themselves been blown when playing at the ball parallel to their own back line (i.e. defending the own goal) when they hit the ball right and started to head off down the field toward their own goal. Players were also tapping taking the ball under their ponies’ neck and slowing the game down just as much as if they would be if they were turning it right but this was technically not against any rules; just seldom done prior to 2010/the new rule.

Anyway, I think the HPA will update the above link if anything changes.

Cheers anyway.
