Is there such a thing as a good transporter of ponies by sea from Argentina as flights are now to expensive ?- Boat must have good facilities to look after the ponies though as have heard to many horror stories! Advice and guidance appreciated.

The voyage would take too long. The ponies' movement and exercise could be severely limited for easily more than a week. This could result in the development of laminitis among other potential issues. Ponies are known to become quite dehydrated and lose a considerable percentage of body weight when being shipped by normal means (semi-trailer/ air) this type of travel could be far too stressful based on duration, lack of sun and limited movement area.

Hope this helped.

back in the old days that's all they had. the way to do it is to find a liner that will allow you for a groom to go along with them adn take care of them in addition to have an exercise area. not to much space but movement. price can be the main factor into the equation.

cheers,

Don't do it.  Have heard terrible stories about horses that have come over by sea.  Even in the best case, it would probably take a year until they were healthy enough to play.

tHANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR REPLIES. i WOULD ONLY EVER CONSIDER GOING BY BOAT IF i COULD FIND A SHIP THAT HAD AN EXCERCISE AREA AND I COULD TAKE A GROOM WITH THE PONIES. BUT CANT FIND A BOAT WITH THESE FACILITIES. I WOULD NOT PUT ANY ANIMAL AT RISK OF ILL TREATMENT. ALL BEST SA

There is a boat transport from Argentina to Italy with horses. A few patrons on the continent have done it as it cost around 1500 USD per horse and takes 3 weeks. I do not know more then that....

You don t need to go to Argentina at the moment ... there are hundreds of ponies here in the UK for sale ...
