Remax cup 2012

On Sunday 15th July three teams contended the Remax Cup 2012 in a friendly round-robin here at Pijaubert. As usual guests came from far afield to participate in our Champagne and Chukkas event, including new friends from Italy with whom we hope to develop some serious polo-fun (watch this space for Champagne and Chukkas in mediaeval castles...)

The first round took place between the Remax team (Antoine Serval, Vincent Girard and Ouari Beddou) and the Huguenots (Gary Pike, Jamie Pike and Caroline Pike) the action was intense and finished two-nil for Remax.

The winners left the ground and their place was taken by Pijaubert Polo (Alexia Pike, Hocine Boudouaia and Ekaterina Prunkova) again some really nice play was enjoyed by all including some mid-air juggling from Alexia Pike who fished an air- shot from brother Jamie out of the air and to everybody's awe put it where it belonged (in the goal!). However this wasn’t enough to give Pijaubert victory this time and the final score was three-one for the Huguenots.

The last match was played between Pijaubert Polo and the Remax team and was neck and neck the whole way, Remax scored the first goal but Pijaubert equalised almost immediately, following up with another goal to put the score at two-one. Remax responded with gusto with another TWO goaLS in quick succession and at just two minutes before the end things were starting to look bad for Pijaubert. However Pijaubert scored an equaliser putting the final score at three-three ten seconds before the final whistle signaled the end of play !

Overall the winners were the Remax team (who won both their games) followed by Huguenots and Pijaubert Polo. Remax very generously distributed their winners'booty (a Jeroboam of Billecart-Salmon from Sponsors Velier of Italy) to an initially enthralled and subsequently tipsy crowd of spectators at the prize-giving :)

Many thanks, as always go to our sponsors, Velier wines of Italy, Remax France and the team from Cannes, Mille Colonnes from Draguignan and French Mortgage Express who made sure we didn't run out of champagne.

The next Champagne and Chukkas event is planned for september, date TBA.

On Sunday  10th June we finally managed to open the season after having to postpone our first tournament by a month because of rainy Sundays ! And we're talking about the South of France !

Three teams, Pijaubert Polo, Mille Colonnes and International Polo Guide met for fun and games at Pijaubert with an action-packed Round-Robin played to an enthralled public who had travelled from Italy, Hong Kong, Iceland, Finland,  Russia and Australia in what has become our own particular very-international style.

A new stylish backdrop was supplied by artist Mardi of Canada who sent us a wonderful glass sculpture (see pictures) from her Equus Collection that really added style to the proceedings !

The first round between Pijaubert-Polo (Alexia Pike, Caroline Pike, Hocine Boudouaia) and Mille Colonnes (Jamie Pike, Ouari Beddou, Vincent Girard) saw some very clean and sweet play which meant the public was able to follow the game as well as any of the usual aficionados. The teams were really well balanced and every attack was met by an able defence; the round closed at one-nil for Pijaubert-Polo.

As usual the victors left the ground and the second round was played between Mille Colonnes and International Polo Guide (Antoine Serval, Gary Pike, Ekaterina Prunkova) some flash-goals and more than a little luck left International Polo Guide well in front with a final score of four-one. Things were looking promising for the final which was then played between Pijaubert-Polo and International Polo Guide, but a ball stolen in extremis by Hocine Boudouaia from Antoine Serval put the score at one-nil for Pijaubert who emerged victorious.

Many thanks go to our regular and recurring sponsors Velier Italy and Remax France, and also to our new sponsors International Polo Guide, Mille Colonnes from Draguignan, French Mortgage Express; welcome on board :)

The next Champagne & Chukkas event is planned for July 14th, mark it on your calendars and be there !

The Coupe du Soleil  trophy match was played at Pijaubert on the 10th July and saw the team sponsored by Remax France finally emerge victorious over home-team Pijaubert-Polo. Les Alpilles Polo Club lost by default, but they will have another chance in September (watch this space for time and date)
For the first time we saw Pijaubert-Polo pupils playing and everyone was impressed by the level of the play and how quickly our neo-aficionados adapted to and learnt the sport; we will no doubt see more of them in the near future !
Chukkas were washed down with lashings of champagne by  ever-more numerous guests as Pijaubert-Polo spreads the word and establishes polo also as a spectator event in the South of France.
Many thanks are due to sponsors Remax-France and to Velier Italy who again provided us with a selection of their finest wines.

The Remax Cup on June 11, was a happy and convivial occasion with a TV-crew from Monaco and over seventy guests all the way from Italy and the UK to play in and watch the return match between Remax-France and Pijaubert-Polo. Pijaubert-Polo won the day over Remax by 5-3, amid champagne and fine wines offered in omaggio by Velier Italia.
After dinner on the lake St Cassien, the fun continued through the weekend with Sunday morning chukkas and polo lessons for the hardy (doused , of course, with appropriate quantities of champagne), while the wise took the time to explore the nearby beaches in Cannes and St.Tropez. A typical mediterranean lunch, a quick swim and a snooze around the pool and everybody was ready to return to real-life!
Watch out for more Champagne & Chukkas,  the next appointment is Saturday July 2nd, keep your diaries free !

The event sponsored by Equus at Pijaubert-Polo was a great success. Artist Mardi brought in her amazing equestrian artwork from Canada  which was exhibited as if it were floating in space between the trees of the forest. Surreal !

The demonstration polo match generated a lot of interest with the public, the home team Pijaubert-Polo emerged victorious over challengers Remax-France by a narrow one goal margin, the final score standing at 5-4 for Pijaubert. Champagne and music flowed late into the night as latecomers from the Cannes film festival turned up for the show.
