Hugh...!
A great initiative - what I would like to do is chat to you about some of the angles open to us to promote this sport, with particular emphasis on how the Federation works and how even it can become more visable to Non - Polo people ..who may well like Polo - if they new more about it...!! Seems the top of the sport is not talking to the bottom (so to speak)...particularly in Australia. However let us not forget all the effort that has gone into our Portsea Polo Tournement - which is now 5000 strong in Spectators, having come froma base of a few hundred not that long ago.

I was talking to someone on PCW today who thought of a computer game for polo... not as crazy as it sounds in my opinion!
Hugh..
Just out of interest ...how much of your Membership Fee's at The VPC go to the next level up ? ie; VPA.I suspect it's Annual Affiliation Fee's. The reason I ask is I just wonder if the Federation could impose a levy from Member Sub's via National Bodies to effectively raise money for Promotion of the Sport more fully ...maybe I'm just too "out there" with this one...but this Sport is looking too much to the inside - not Grand Plan enough.
Also ...why does Portsea Polo work so well ? Maybe there needs to be a fund available that is fully tax deductable for investors ie: A Sports Foundation (Polo) ...don't try and convince me that some of our illustrious Players do not have a Tax Problem...! So this Foundation is a World Wide Initiative of Charitable Status with some heavy weights on the Board who invest in the Sport / Young Players etc...and other initiatives.
I have more thoughts ...hope this gets some idea's turned into reality.
Cheers
Scottie
I love this idea and want two please, one for beginners.
I wholeheartedly agree Scott. What polo needs is PUBLICITY. The Olympics as a world common goal. Uniting the effort to compete in the Olympic Games - the very best publicity for the future of any sport. Olympics bring publicity to polo so tomorrow's youth can discover new heroes. Today, sadly, our Argentine heroes are almost unknown.. All the merchandising entrepreneurs, polo video game inventors, polo travel agents, polo schools, professional polo players, polo photographers, FEM polo players, the polo press, PCW, and .......and the whole world ..... will benefit when the oldest sport in the world returns to the Olympics.
Hi Claudia
You and I are alike with this idea...! I am involved as a Member of The Equestrian Federation of Australia - it as an organisation, has representation at The Victorian Olympic Committee...which raises the awarness of all Olympic Sport - but with the Agenda of Fundraising. What does fundraising do..? It allows those on the Committee to rub shoulders with people like our own home grown Mining Magnate Mr Andrew Forrest (a keen supporter of Australian Athletics) ..and currently Australia's richest individual at AUD $10,000,000,000 We need to Network more and be far more informed about what The Polo Federation is doing.

Howdy
I do have another thought ...go to www.coachella.com which is a site for a music festival held at Empire Polo Field in the US...If someone,or a group of investors were to bank roll this concept at one - of or a number of Polo Club's World Wide AND some of the money went into the coffers of our Sport ...then we can do things...!
Have a look at the site..
All the best.

Hi guys... there are a number of great ideas here. For the sake of keeping some order in the 'Polo Business Forum' discussion can I suggest that you treat each key idea seperately and post in the 'discussion' area of the group. If your concept is clearly titled it will help other PCW members find, review and respond accordingly. (see my discussion post as an example). Cheers. Hugh.
Wow - I took a virtual tour at Coachella - wonderful web page, idea and event organizing.!! Scott, what sport coffers ? Who manages the funds ? To what end or goal ? Please read
http://backhander.wordpress.com/2008/05/01/uspa-youre-on-notice/ and some of the other Entries; FIP Keeps Polo a Secret is also interesting....Claudia
Hi Claudia
I just looked at your Pictures...you are passionate about the game ! and the creative angle on the pics is superb.Does your whole family play..?
My thinking with Coachella is its one of a number of ways of generating money - but may be more suited to individual clubs. The way to approach it,is to hire the fields for a fee and percentage of the profits ...plus you need a good promoter in the music industry.
But I love the article you sent me ...vote em out..!!!
Scott
All the best...come to Australia !
Hi Scott/ Claudia,

I thank you both for caring and taking time to disscuss the development of the game. As I started polo recently and was unaware of the great excitment polo has as a game and the unimaginable passion which has developed already. I also can't imagine waking up 5 in the morning and going for the training and training in a stiff and most humid weather....but I am amazed and could not believe that our game has a very low international exposure.....I believe and agree with Scott that we must shake all these so called associations who never did any good to the game.

Polo has a very strong network in Pakistan aswell but there is a strong cluster of few people who have made it impossible for a true promotion and development of the game. And it is happening worldwide aswell !!!!

As we are a strong group (PCW) we have players, umpires, patrons, fans, commentators, bankers, writers, movie makers....and what else we lack as a team to make OUR game a worldwide game :>)

The ACTION PLAN can be devised in six days...I bet you..

Hi!!!
How was all with those concerts, partys, etc at the polo fields?
I am from Argentina and Oasis played at the "Campo Argentino de Polo" where the Abierto de Palermo takes place. I think that its a brillant idea to use a polo field with those giants dimensions but take care of the field if you want to play polo after.
