THE SPORT OF POLO

"As a sport, polo is hard, highly competitive, and full of risk. Beyond the game's obvious glamour and beauty is a hidden world of endless toil and effort. For these reasons, and for the tenacity, the character, and the cool mind it demands, I cannot conceive polo as anything but a sport of gentlemen, and in the modern world, ladies. The game additionally requires a noble sporting spirit, a sense of camaraderie, and - one need hardly say so - a great love of horses".
Juan Carlos Harriot - (Introduction - Polo, by Susan Barrantes)

Thank you Ian. I hope your school is going well and I LOVED reading your profile and the Juan Carlos Harriot quote on the Introduction - Polo, by Susan Barrantes. I teach an ESL class on Multi-Cultural issues of Beauty, Health and Self Esteem to over 100 adult students here in NYC. We look not only at the superficial beauty of men and women, horses, art, etc., but the hidden beauty (as she says) of hard work, reflection, and staying strong inside through positive self esteem. I use sports as the metaphor and they relate to this. (Also for Sport idiomatic expressions used in business.) My father is a university coach and so - - to me this is life. Three of my students play Polo. Thanks again and perhaps we may have the oportunity of meeting you and yours next time in Buenos
Aires, (for me this coming Jan -) if you're there, and hopefuly to many of you also in this group. Thanks again. Linda Miele
