What were the results?

Maltese Cat said… Had another thought.
Why not contact George Wood of Wood Mallets
or
Christopher Kiesel (he studied at Wood Mallets. He is now the manager and trainer of the Bern Polo Club. Greetings to him from "Cat" in Argentina.)
http://www.facebook.com/people/Christopher-Kiesel/725570614
or
Adriano "Nano" Perez at
and have your son explain his project. Ask for advice and then have your son work with a local carpenter.
Your son will get his project yet!

Cat
Maltese Cat said… Any decent carpenter can do the work.
Important to watch out for is:
- Keeping the angle of the head the same as before.
- Using tape (paper tape or surgical tape (which I use) over the shaft before glueing (wood on wood is not as strong, I have read.)
- When tapping the wedge into the head, tap only until the sound changes. If you continue to hammer further, you risk the chance that the head will explode later when being used for polo.
- I use wedges that I found in the hardware store, which are used for wood flooring. Beats trying to cut wedges myself.
Talk to a carpenter and "challenge" him to see if he might help you and your son. It could make for further business for him with your polo club.

Maltese Cat said… The information I sent you earlier on wooden horses and hitting cages can now be found at:

and

Take a look at the rest of the site and tell me if it is of any help to you and your polo.

Maltese Cat said… I like aspects of the first two horses.
The first appears sturdier, especially in the legs and floor brace.
The second has a removable head and neck.
Both could be improved by shaping the body in an oval. The last example is of a horse in California with an oval body. I have about 60 photos of that cage, as well as the original hitting cage design.
Let me know how your horse turns out!

Cat
