Why is it that about 90% of all good polo ponies use a gag bit? I have also notice that you dont see many pelhams on high goal ponies that play in the high goal chmapionships. Continue

Hi Sani,

I hope you are doing great. I'll be in Lagos for the Majekodumi Cup. Sad that I wont be able to see you playing, in your photos you look quite good!! If you are around in  Lagos from the 6th to the !@ of march let me know. Take care, kind regards.

Imagine that. In Germany, for example, the highest rated native player carries a 5 goal handicap. Some two and three goal players there appear to be similar to those in your country. Mind you, not all pros act this way. In Argentina, where a 4 or 5 goal handicap is not atypical for a relatively young player, the players are far more amenable, humble and approachable. There are some genuinely nice players here. Should you finally decide to travel to Argentina for polo, write to me.  I can put you in touch with several schools who will provide you with a pleasant visit and a worthwhile polo experience. Even without my choices, you will probably find a great polo school on your own, because Argentina has warm-hearted people who know their polo.

Sani,

When you stop enjoying polo, it is time to get out. You don't need to take the abuse from anyone. Remember a 3 goaler is still a beginner (advanced beginner), the 4,5&6 goalers are intermediate players, and 7 and up are high goal players. I believe you are on the right track. Stick with polo among friends and clubmates. This way you can look forward to polo each and every time!

I am fortunate to be living in Argentina in an area with lots of polo. There are 40 fields within a 10km radius, and many more beyond that. Crowder writes of 20 goal polo as if it were the top of the world. I watched a local game here in November of 20-21 goal polo...just between the neighbor kids. There was no patron among them. The players ranged from a 3 goal groom, through a 4 goaler who is over 50 years old (the old man on the field) to young Sapo Caset, at 8 goals, who played fifth man for La Dolfina this year. Just a bunch of neighborhood kids having 6 chukkers of fun. Afterward, we all sat down for drinks and chatted as neighbors do. Try to find THAT in North America or in Europe.

Enjoy your polo while your health and pocketbook allow you to.

We don't stop playing because we get old...we get old when we stop playing.

regards,

Cat

Sani,

I was hesitant about accepting your invitation. I received many invites, which I ignore. I am not one to collect hundreds of "friends" as one does in Facebook. Almost all come without an explanation why I should accept their invitation, and, when further prodded, I usually receive a weak answer.

However, I noticed your comment in the Polozone. I see that you are a low goal patron and are learning the pitfalls in this sport. I wish you many years of pleasure in this wonderful sport. Pologroom described what many of us have learned through long and uncomfortable experiences. You might be interested in my comment on that page. In addition, low goal polo can be just as rewarding as high goal polo. See the following link and read the first paragraph to see how one 0-4 goal tournament supplied their participants with terrific prizes:
