If women already used to play polo in China under the Tang dinasty (IIIrd century), the high goals competitions specialy dedicated to them have been developped less than 10 years ago.
Thus, in may and june 2010, was held the first LADIES POLO TOUR in south and central America (Argentina, Brazil etc.). POLOCONSULT has also been an important support to the femnin polo in Argentina since it originated the first feminin polo open being part of the official season of the ARGENTINIAN ASSOCIATION OF POLO, whose final game was held in Palermo. What with the ARGENTINIAN ASSOCIATION OF POLO circuits, the MYRIAM HEGUY cup and the various competitions that bud around Buenos Aires, Argentina begins to expand its statuts of polo country to its feminin side. Still, on the international scene, the American and British teams are ahead of the Argentinian Ladies.
Indeed, in the USA, the ladies polo competitions were created way before and the first US WOMEN’S OPEN was played in 1990. The women’s recognition in the American polo happened very early since the UNITED STATES POLO ASSOCIATION registered for the first time a women player in 1920 and publishes the goals of its ladies members since 1972. The american ladies polo players who were groupped in societies since the begining of 1900, continued to unite and the most famous of these societies is now the POLO GIRLS SOCIETY.
On the other side of the Atlantic ocean, The INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S POLO ASSOCIATION which was created in ASCOT PARK in 1989 before being officialy launched in 1997 devotes itself to encourage the ladies polo, in both the mixed and exclusively feminin competitions. As a matter of fact, in december 2010, the collegial girls team of the Kentucky university, crossed the ocean to defeat 3 American teams in the universitarian women polo championship of the UNITED STATES POLO ASSOCIATION. France is still the lame duck of this development but polo keeps on seducing more and more women who, beging with a mixed team for example, end up creating their own teams. Consequentely, the French federation of Polo indicated the goals of moe than 200 women polo players for 2012.
Even if most of the high goals women polo players claim they prefere to play in tournaments open to both sexes, the development of women polo competitions helped them to find a space in all competitions. And to satisfie everybody, a POLO MIX CUP, bringing together teams of 3 women and 1 man, was played in november in La candelaria, Argentina.
