In 2002 traveling through the Namib desert on the way to the Skeleton Coast, we came upon a herd of feral horses. (Wild, but not occurring naturally.) Here is a short clip.
It was mid winter there, which means dry and cool- there is extremely little vegetation as you can see.
These horses survive with the help of a water-bore dug by a compassionate local farmer. Before this, a large percentage of the herd died of starvation and thirst every year.
These particular horses are the reason I have gone back to painting horses exclusively.
I stayed in Namibia for 7 months because of them.
